All of the following events and activities are sponsored and supported by your Harmony Elementary PTA. Volunteer efforts are essential to the success of any program, and your feedback is always welcome. Whether you’d like to volunteer for an hour, a day, or are ready to commit to a long-term position, your Harmony PTA has an opportunity to meet your schedule and interests.
Executive Board
Several board positions need to be filled every year including President, Vice-President of Programs, Vice-President of Communications and Membership, Vice-President of Fundraising, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, and Financial Secretary. A PTA can not operate without a President, Treasurer and Secretary.
President
- Carry out duties as per bylaws.
- Help create a caring community of parent volunteers and ensure support to teachers.
- Confer with Principal and PTA Board regarding school community wants/needs, plans for the year, and progress toward goals.
- Oversee the work of other Board members and committee chairs in order that the objectives are promoted.
- Preside over all monthly meetings of the PTA General Membership, Board Of Managers, and the Executive Board.
- Maintain a relationship with members within the community, including, but not limited to PTA members, School Board members, Principal, and Superintendent.
- Must sign all contracts and Oversee implementation of budget.
- Attend PTA district, state, and national meetings when possible.
- Make sure the PTA is compliant with District, State, and National.
- Promote, educate, and support the PTA mission.
Secretary
- Carry out duties as per bylaws.
- Working with the President to create a meeting agenda
- Sending out meeting announcements, agendas, and supporting documents
- Assume the duties of the historian if one is not designated in the bylaws.
- Three main roles: recorder, correspondent, and record maintainer.

Treasurer
- Carry out duties as per bylaws.
- Raising money is not the goal of PTA – remember the 3 to 1 rule. 3 activities or programs for each fundraising event.
- Responsible for the financial health of the PTA by keeping the books and records of the financial status of the group.

Financial Secretary
- Make deposits
- Check signer
- Count incoming funds with at least one other PTA member
- Work with Treasurer to maintain all financial records
- Schedule and set up cash box at events
VP Communications and Membership
- Promote annual PTA membership to parents and staff
- Record all membership data
- Submit membership totals to treasurer by state deadlines so that dues are paid
- Bring membership records to each meeting
- Coordinate communications about PTA initiatives to the community and staff.
- Strives to keep families and school staff up to date about PTA activities, events, news, and goals via a regular newsletter.
- Coordinates with Social Media Chair and Website Chair to establish and maintain a cohesive communication plan.
VP Programs
- Works with school counselors to set up annual Unity Week activities
- Research and organize at least 2 school-wide assemblies
- Brag Tags program
- Works with school staff and ordering as well as distributing the tags throughout the year
VP Fundraising
- Works with chairs of the fundraisers to ensure successful initiatives
- Tracks and reports fundraising income
- Works with other executive board members to coordinate initiatives for fundraisers
- Reaches out for community business support for sponsor(s)

Willing to assist with clipping of labels prior to posting.
Community Council Rep
Represents Harmony PTA at all Community Council Meetings and reports pertinent information to the Harmony PTA Board. There are (4) meetings per school year.
Corresponding Secretary
Sends cards, flowers, and thank you notes as needed and requested by the Board, within Standing Rules guidelines, to students, staff, PTA Board members, and others.
Copies
Makes and sorts copies as requested by the PTA President and Publicity/Newsletter Chair to be distributed to school families.
Coupon Books Fundraiser
Once a year we sell great coupon books with proceeds directly benefiting your child and their school, and can always use help with this endeavor.
Cultural Arts/Reflections Program
Serves as the Chair for the annual Reflections Program and helps promote the arts on behalf of the PTA.
Dine to Donate Nights
Coordinates ongoing fundraisers with a local restaurants that donate a portion of sales back to your PTA.
Diversity and Inclusion
Works with the Harmony School Counselor to implement an educational diversity program, assures following guidelines of the state PTA Tool Kit, and works to provide a cultural awareness, diversity, and inclusion event.
Family Fun Nights
Plans, schedules, and facilitates school community family events such as School Skate Nights, family nights, and more.
Dance
A popular event offering a special time for students and their adult role models, which requires a dedicated team to plan, coordinate, prepare, host, and clean up after.
Fifth Grade Events
The Fifth Grade Events Committee plans fun activities for our oldest students, such as the annual Fifth Grade Picnic and Graduation.
Garden Project
Works with school administration and teachers to involve students with the school garden project. Preparations include purchasing starter kit supplies for students to use in the classroom.
Grounds/Beautification
Willing to help replace mulch back onto playground, update play spaces, and other landscaping needs to keep Harmony looking its best.
Harmony Harvest Glow Carnival
Held annually to promote school spirit and community, this carnival style event has something for everyone and takes numerous volunteers to create this fun family time. Whether you can volunteer for an hour during the event or serve on the planning committee, there is a way for everyone to help.
Hospitality
A great way to assist in honoring our teachers and staff during appreciation days, usually by providing refreshments at special functions.
Read-a-Thon
Yearly fundraising event, our biggest of the year. It takes a lot of hard work to make this fun, educational fundraiser a success.
Community Rewards
Manages Kroger Rewards, Box Tops and Amazon Smile.
Silent Auction & Raffle Coordinator
Responsible for seeking donations for silent auction from local companies. Sets up auction at selected event and closes out the auction as well as does final follow ups.
Spring Event
Plans and facilitates school event for the spring.
Red Ribbon and Unity Week
Works with the VP of Programs and School Counselors to plan and coordinate the events during Red Ribbon & Unity Week.
Room Parents and Room Parent Coordinator
Each classroom asks for parent volunteers to serve as room parents. Room parents are responsible for providing support to students and teachers in the classroom, typically including two annual parties, and coordinates any classroom projects for auction. The Coordinator works with the teachers and room parents as needed to provide information and assistance.
School Bookstore
Manages the sale of PTA items within the Harmony School Bookstore.
School Supply Kit Representative
Coordinates with 1st Day School Supplies, Harmony’s vendor for school supplies, to set up supply lists for online ordering.
Site Based Decision Making Council Rep
We have a Site Based Decision Making Council that consists of several stakeholders at Harmony. Parent representative attends and reports information to the PTA. Find out more by visiting our SBDM information page.
Social Media
Manages Facebook, Instagram, Remind text notices, and other social media websites on behalf of the PTA. Coordinates with Newsletter Chair and Website Chair to establish and maintain a cohesive communication plan.
Special Education Coordinator
Provides information that may be of interest to parents of children with special needs, works to ensure children with special needs receive accommodations at events when possible, and coordinates with other levels of the PTA regarding issues affecting families of children with special needs.
Spirit Wear
Helps design and market spirit wear created by approved vendor such as shirts, sweatshirts, water bottles, and more to be sold at events, the Harmony Bookstore or online marketplace.
Staff Representative
A staff representative acts as a link between the staff and PTA to assure good communication exchange and that goals and needs are being met.
Volunteer Coordinator
Recruits, assigns, and coordinates parent, teacher, and youth volunteers for various PTA activities and events. May also work with the Principal to assign Aides requested by the school.
WATCH D.O.G.S.
We’d love for someone to get this program going at Harmony! Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities. Goals include positive male role modeling, security enhancement, reducing bullying, and demonstrating that education is important. Read more on their website.
Website
Manages the PTA website, sharing timely information as well as storing previous communications. Coordinates with Newsletter Chair and Social Media Chair to establish and maintain a cohesive communication plan.
Welcoming Committee
Works with the school principal in planning welcoming/orientations for new families.
Winter Holiday Celebration
Every December we enjoy a time together to celebrate the holidays. This is a great time for everyone in your family. Help is always needed before, during, and after this festive event.
