High Flying Fun at Our Mother & Son Event

There was nothing scary about our annual Mother & Son Event on Friday, April 13th. It was a beautifully warm spring night, with a bit of wind, but that didn’t keep the boys from having loads of fun. From football, to soccer and even Nerf battles, chairperson Caryn Weferling had it all covered. Thanks for another amazing year, Caryn!

A special thank you to Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve for allowing us to have our event at their park and to Floss 32 for being an event sponsor. Be sure to share your awesome event photos with us on Instagram @kyharmonypta #heshuskies2017 Can’t wait to do it again!

Leaders at Work

As part of the Leader in Me program at Harmony, each week Harmony students come together for a leadership meeting. A meeting led by students, for students. This meeting starts with upbeat music playing as the kids file in. There’s a little chatter going, much like you may have around the water cooler talking about what you did over the weekend. Then, in moments everyone settles and the meeting beginnings. Each grade level does their chant together, followed by recognitions, this day in history facts and even birthday announcements for students and staff. Super leaders are named for each classroom and their peers applaud them with joy. It’s truly remarkable the young leaders we have here at Harmony!

So I encourage you, take a moment in your car ride after that game, or around the dinner table tonight to ask your child about their day as a leader. Maybe they are even the super leader this week! The Leader in Me program is incorporated in so many ways in your child’s day, from the 7 Habits to leadership notebooks. To find out more about the Leader in Me program, visit www.theleaderinme.org

A message from the PTA President

While some days here lately don’t feel like spring, including snow in April, it’s hard to believe we’re in the final weeks of school. Thank you all for a truly amazing year! Together we’ve celebrated, honored and encouraged so many students and staff. As the days go by, with their ups and downs, we have to continue to celebrate, honor and encourage those around us to help build a better future for all. Big or small, every movement creates a motion.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” ― Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

I’ll be back again next year serving as your president. Contact me to learn more about how you can help at pta.president.hes@gmail.com or to provide feedback.

Harmony’s Weekly Golden Awards

Each week the students of Harmony Elementary gather around to see who has won the coveted Golden Awards from their related arts teachers and counselor. There are 5 awards from the teachers, then 3 more Golden Bones awarded by Harmony Counselor Mrs. Murphy. There are three very important criteria each class must do to earn the awards. They must show they are respectful, responsible and safe. Also, when awards are given to the classes, there are additional praises such as – most improvement, showing great teamwork, tackling a particularly difficult project or having a great attitude.
When a winner is announced, the classes show a great pride for earning such an honor. And more than that, the other classes applaud them for their achievements.  The overall connection between every class is truly amazing!
And this week was no different. Without further delay, the honors go to…

presented by Mrs. Washer to Mrs. Hay’s 3rd Grade Class
