Harmony Elementary Board & Committee Meeting – Agenda

January  28, 2020 8:30 PM

Due to COVID-19 and social gathering restrictions, all Harmony PTA Board and General Meetings will be virtual for the 2020/2021 school year. A Zoom link and dial-in info will be sent to Harmony PTA members through MemberHub and will also be available in a Facebook event via the Harmony PTA page.

Welcome/Introductions

Updates from Principal Sue Hackmiller

• Excited to be back in person, going well, different but going well
• 70-100 new friends out of VLA when we came back in person.
• 111 students still in VLA
• 633 currently enrolled, 3 new starting Monday bringing enrollment to 636
• Classes are full, but social distancing is maintained and going well
• #1 goal to stay in person
• Vaccine roll out is happening, 2^nd dose complete Feb 26
  • Teachers first, then support staff
• Looking at ESS dollars for summer school learning opportunities
• Hired a new 1^st grade teacher, Ms. Hartman. A large number of VLA students were 1^st Adding another teacher helped keep classes numbers low
• Question: Do you foresee us being able to do any large gatherings or events for the rest of the year?
  • Unknown at this time, maybe look at smaller class only celebrations
• School pictures, getting creative and not having outside vendors. Will do our own with Harmony staff taking the pictures. And create a remarkable yearbook!

Chromebook Charging Carts Proposal

NOMS gifted Harmony their old Chromebooks, still waiting for them

• Need for Chromebook charging carts
  • Carts $4596.00 for 4 charging carts.
  • Carts would go to 4^th grade, each cart holds 30

4^th and 5^th grade are 1:1

120 Chromebooks, would put 3^rd graders 1:1 $44,455 ($269, $25 management license, $39 maintenance)

Harmony would purchase with PTA donation

Budget Review

• Hustle – Raised 19k, working on teacher distribution of about 3k
• Kroger Rewards doing great
• Promote Box Tops more
• Dine to Donate, see if can get more
  • Mi Terra works with Buckner and new Prospect location wants to participate
• Silent Auction, putting off to spring. Possibly do online
• Read-A-Thon – March, One School One Book, tie it all together (Amanda Howard)
• Break even for the year at this point

Budget Revision for Room Parents

• Was $2700, $100 per room for celebrations
• $3200 needed to cover every room
• Funds used for supplies for winter party, valentine party, staff appreciation week
• Proposal to add $50 to each room parent budget
  • Needing $2100 moved from unused funds
    • Jessy motion to approve, Dani approved, Ashley 2^nd
  • Educational enhancement, make donation to Harmony
    • Amy proposed donation not to exceed 17K for Chromebooks
    • Approved Marianne, Ashley 2nd

 

Committee Updates

• Ideas being thrown around for 5^th grade celebrations
  • T-shirts and Signs?
• Ashely – Membership posts on Facebook
  • 141 members currently
    • 33 staff
  • Jessy – Supply Kits – 2020-2021 kit lists being worked on now with lead teachers
