It’s Time to Elect our 2019-2020 Parent Members

Dear Harmony School Parents,

There were two nominations for the parent representative for a 2 year term for 2019-2020. Below are their statements they submitted explaining why they want to be on the council.

Deirdre Weber
This past year was my first year as a Harmony parent. My oldest child is a kindergarten student. In the fall I joined the PTA. I have had numerous opportunities to volunteer and get to know several of the wonderful teachers, parents and students at Harmony. I would love to serve on the Harmony Elementary Site Based Decision Making Council to continue to support the student and staff members. I feel like as a parent newer to Harmony I could bring some fresh new ideas to the table. Having young kids that have yet to enroll at Harmony it’s very much in my interest to make sure Harmony remains the outstanding school that it currently is.

Jared Barrett
As a former school board member from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, I would like to use my experience by serving on the Site Based Decision Making Council. I served for six years (2012-2018) as a school board member in a district that grew from 7,000 to 8,800 students in six years. I also reviewed and developed the annual operating budget which in 2018 stood at $75 million. I also developed district policy and conducted an annual evaluation of the Director of Schools.

As a parent of incoming twin kindergarteners, I would to serve the school they will attend and feel this is the perfect opportunity. My family and I moved to Goshen, Kentucky in June 2018 from Tennessee due to my new job as an archaeologist for the US Army Corps of Engineers in their Louisville district office.

The election will be held Tuesday, April 23rd from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Harmony’s school office. If you will have a child enrolled at Harmony next year, you are eligible to vote in this election. (This includes parents, step-parents, and foster parents.) I urge every parent to participate in this important decision about the future of our children’s school.

Results will be announced (and a run-off election held if necessary) Tuesday, April 23rd 2019 at 3:45 p.m. in Harmony’s school office. Please plan to be present for this important event.

In addition, we did not receive any nominations for the open 1 year term minority parent member to serve on Harmony’s SBDM council for 2019-2020. If you are interested in this, please contact me.

Thank you for your interest in our school, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Jessy Maggard

2019-2020 School Supply Lists

Yep, it’s time to plan for next school year already. Want to mark something off your list now? Your Harmony PTA provides a school supply service to help make back to school shopping a little bit easier. Simply click the image below and order the kit for the grade your child will be in next year. Then we deliver the kits to your child’s classroom, so it’s waiting for you open house night. It can’t get any easier than that! Don’t delay, orders must be submitted by June 30th!

We do this completely as a convenience service for our Harmony families, this is not a fundraiser for us. If you wish to purchase your supplies on your own, you may certainly do so. Here are the complete lists for each grade level. HES 2019-2020 School Supply Lists

Annual SBDM Nominations

Download full letter and application here SBDM Election Letter

Dear Harmony Elementary School Parents:

I hope you’ll consider running for our school council, or encourage a friend to do so.

In Kentucky, each school has a council composed of the principal, elected teachers, and elected parents who make many of the most important decisions about how their school will work. The council is a wonderful chance to learn about your school, work closely with teachers, and help make our school even more successful than it is now. The parent members of the council are elected by parents. This year we are electing a parent representative for a 2 year term, as well as a minority parent for a 1 year term. Each will receive training and will serve from July 1 to June for their terms. To help with questions you may have, I’m enclosing a fact sheet about parent members of Kentucky school councils.

Nominations are due to Carla Stone in Harmony’s school office no later than 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. If you know someone who would be a good candidate, please do encourage that person to run.

Results will be announced (and a run-off election held if necessary) on Tuesday, April 23rd 2019 at 3:45 p.m. in Harmony’s school office. Please plan to be present for this important event.

Thank you for your interest in our school, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Jessy Maggard
