Harmony Harvest Fall Festival

Please join us Saturday, October 7th from 5-8pm! Our Harvest Fall Festival is held annually to promote school spirit and community.

This carnival style event has something for everyone and takes numerous volunteers to create this fun family time. Please consider signing up here to volunteer. This is a rain or shine event filled with tons of fun! We will have games, inflatables, face painting, craft & vendor booths, food trucks and a gymnastics course. This year we have many new things planned, too! There will be a hay ride, trunk or treat, silent auction and even a showcase of pumpkins from our decorating contest. The fun is endless! So bring your whole family and even your friends – this is a community event you won’t want to miss!

Harmony PTA General Meeting Minutes

September 13, 2017

Attendees: Jessy Maggard, Ari Willey, Deidre Clark, Sue Hackmiller, Amy Keller, Lindsay Bumba, Christina Bosemer, Beth Fowler, Becky French, Mariam Applegate, Stuart Ulferts, Julie Bucalos, Holly Wood, Mindy Stevens, Stacy Richardson, Caryn Weferling

Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm by Jessy Maggard and Deidre Clark served as recorded secretary

Welcome/Introductions

Recording Secretary, Deidre Clark Minutes from last meeting (9/7/17) were approved. Motion for approval by Stuart Ulferts, second motion for approval by Mindy Stevens

 A Message from the Principal, Sue Hackmiller

  • Harmony is still looking for a foreign language teacher; may have to change to another related arts option if language teacher is not found
  • New related arts option – STEM class is going well
  • MAP testing is going on now
  • KPREP results to be released to the public on September 28th; Individual results to come home at a later date
  • Enrollment is 650 students

President, Jessy Maggard

  • New Bylaws Vote to Approve
  • Membership dues went from $5 to $3.60
  • Positions are committed to 1 year; Maximum changed from 2 years to 4 years
  • Reviewed, voted and approved (Stuart Ulferts – motion to approve; second – Mindy Stevens)
  • Council Recap
  • Pension plans for teachers were discussed
  • Bus driver shortage was discussed. OC pays for training, insurance is paid for drivers for at least 20 hours a week. 8 more drivers have been hired for the district.
  • New elementary school will possibly be built in the near future in Oldham County. Re-districting would occur.
  • Project graduation was discussed. This is a celebration the night of graduation. Bring all HS students together to prevent them from getting into trouble the night of graduation.
  • Scholarships & Awards
  • There are National PTA scholarships available. For example, parents going to school can get scholarship from PTA. More info to come out about these scholarship opportunities.
  • Harmony PTA offers an Oldham Co student scholarship
  • Bus Drivers Appreciation – October
  • Appreciation week the 3rd week in October
  • Custodial Appreciation day
  • October 2nd – PTA to plan something
  • Red Ribbon Week
  • Possibly combine activities for the Red Ribbon Week (Oct 30-Nov3) and PTA Kentucky Kids Day
  • Red Ribbon Week – designed to help foster awareness of tobacco, alcohol abuse, drug abuse; proposed to have sheriffs department to hand out the red ribbons; still have theme days, but will have new activities (play with someone you don’t normally play with; bring indoor/outdoor recess equipment 1 day, etc)
  • Wording for the flyer to be worked on; approval at next meeting
  • Newsletter
  • Next one to come out on October 11; Let Jessy know if anything needs to be included in this newsletter

Committee Reports

Membership, Ari Willey

  • 256 members (121 members at this time last year)
  • October 15th is when membership dues are due
  • All boards members need to make sure they are current with membership

 

Hustle, Julie Bucalos

  • $14,070 collected so far (Goal is $22,500)
  • 183 students have donated
  • Incentives – t-shirts provided for all students; sunglasses for registering with online website; numerous other items depending on sales of each child (fidget spinners, backpack buttons, pencils, Harmony harvest tickets);
  • Certificates will be created and passed out to students for the incentives; student will turn in their certificate for their prize

Harvest, Jessy reported on behalf of Kasey Anderson

  • Scheduled for October 7th
  • Trunk or treat (5th graders); will collect candy for the trunk or treat at school; pumpkin decorating contest to be voted on; pre-sale of tickets; inflatables, games, hayride, and many other activities planned

  • Still in bidding process

Spirit Wear, Kristen Frey & Courtney Sewell

Room Parents, Amy Keller

  • Room parent coordination activities – Winter party, valentine party, teacher appreciation week in April, teacher birthday, silent auction item

September 7, 2017

Meeting was called to order at 9:05am by Jessy Maggard and Deidre Clark served as recording secretary.

Welcome/Introductions

Recording Secretary, Deidre Clark Minutes from last meeting (7/18/17), approved. Motion for approval by Dani Reich, second motion for approval by Kendra Wiegand.

A Message from the Principal, Sue Hackmiller

  • Still looking for Spanish teacher; if one isn’t found, will have to change that related arts choice to something elseMAP assessment to start next week; all assessments will be done on ipads or chromebooks
  • Student enrollment is at 650 students

President, Jessy Maggard  

Disaster Relief 

  • Recommendation made to add a donation for the National PTA disaster relief fund to the PTA annual budget. Everyone agreed to add $100 to the budget for this for the 2017-2018 year and re-evaluate the amount each year.
  • The Texas PTA has launched a “fill the backpacks” initiative. Everyone agreed that we should consider adopting some classrooms in the disaster areas or send supplies. PTA to work with faculty to determine the best way to move forward on this.

New Bylaws

  • Old bylaws updated. Only a few changes which includes that the PTA makes no income on membership and that PTA position terms are for 1 year with a max of holding a position of 4 years.

Sponsorships Update

  • Packets have been distributed to potential sponsors
  • Legacy bricks are still on sale for sponsors to purchase
  • Several ads have been sold for the directory
  • Donations received: $100 allotted to hospitality and 10 cases of 2 liter bottles

Auctions

  • Will have a small silent auction at multiple events instead of 1 large silent auction. Tentatively planned for Harmony Harvest, Donuts with Santa, Father/Daughter Dance, and the Mother/Son Event. Room parents will be responsible for putting together the gift baskets for auction. A percentage of the money made will go back to the classroom

Reimbursement Procedure

  • All financial bills/reimbursement requests will be picked up weekly on Fridays. On Tuesdays checks will be signed and put in reimbursement folder for pickup. PTA files are in the Library in Leslie’s office. If you prefer checks to be mailed, please provide self-addressed stamped envelope with your request.
  • Cash boxes at events – Any board member can work the cash box. An executive board member has to open and close the cash boxes.

Red Ribbon Week

  • Recommendation made to combine with Kentucky Kids Day. Kentucky Kids Day was established by KY PTA to set aside a special day for our students. Suggested that kids would be invited to donate indoor/outdoor equipment for recess, books for their classroom and all kids would be encouraged to play with a new friend at recess. Also, suggested to have the red ribbons distributed by the Sheriff’s department. Planning to begin.

Teacher Events

  • Events used as fundraisers for classrooms. Will plan for later in the year.

Treasurer’s Report, Dani Reich reporting for Holly Wood

  • Budget Report
  • Changes for budget reviewed. Will vote for approval at next week’s meeting.

Committee Reports Hustle, Jessy Maggard reporting for Julie Bucalos

  • $11,465 collected online as of today
  • Including other collections, the total is over $12,000

Membership, Ari Willey

  • Currently 209 members have signed up (compared to 121 last year)
  • Payment due by 15th of October
  • Plan to give faculty an incentive to join PTA  by raffling off spirit wear and lunch

Harvest, Kasey Anderson

  • All new games this year. Will be held inside and outside to include games, vendors, food trucks, trunk or treat, bouncies, hayrides, face painting, and a pumpkin-decorating contest. Families will be able to pre-order tickets. There will be a sensory friendly time before and a sensory game room open all night.

Playground, Kendra Wiegand

  • Equipment to be installed over Christmas break
  • Legacy bricks will be installed in October

Spirit Wear, Kristen Frey & Courtney Sewell

  • New stuff coming in for Husky Harvest – key chains headbands, shirts, sweatshirts

Room Parents, Amy Keller

  • 16 out of 27 room parent positions have been filled. Will meet with room parents soon.
